A summer of racing fun

Today I completed the portland Triathlon for the second time. It was a hard fought finish, but a finish none the less . (I have the finisher shirt to prove it!)
This was my second tri oth the season and my seond tri as a mommy. This summer I ran in 4 races by myself d then we did the West Seattle 5K as a family.
I would say tat this officially makes me a racing mama. I do have to admit though that part of me thinks that I over committed myself. but the other part of me, the part tht reminds myself that in febrary my right foot hardly works says fuckit! your foot didnt work and you are a new mom and look at what you did!!.

I think my favorite part about today was seeing my family at the transition points Its hard to disribe how it felt to have them cheering me on especially today when it was just a fight with myself some times to keep going.

Thank you Mario, my mom,my sister, and Diego.

So now i take a break, try to start doing some regular jogging again. Put that fancy Bob stroller to good use. I think that for next year I want to focus on triathlons during the summer and early fall and then think aout a marathon in the late fall or winter. I will have to see about time and finances.
oh and of course i am sure if I whip up some awesome racing outfits my time will be better. of course.

not a very good blogger

I am really not a very good blogger type of person. I realize that when I look at my blog and expect there to be new content and realize, Oh yeah, I have to put it up there….. details details…..

Well I was at a conference for a week. Then I spent the weekend putting together wedding invitations and trying to get all that stuff organized (thank you everyone who helped with the invites!) When it was all said and done, all the invitations fit into one shoe box. It all looked so simple. Anyways, then last week I got sick and was home coughing up portions of my lung fors a week. One day I thought I was well enough to go to work, but then ended up having this terrible coughing fit and so they sent me home. Probably for the best. Since it was Good Friday on Friday I ended up with a one day week. Too bad I spent most of it sick sick sick.

This last weekend was very productive though. I started my wedding dress. I think I have been dreading it a little, like a little scared about what I have gotten myself into with the whole having to alter the pattern thing but I finally bucked up and started to do it and it really wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. Of course I am not sure I am altering the dress the “right” way, but as long as it fits, and stays together and looks nice, well then it will be the right way.

We also did our wedding registry. I was surprised to find out that Ikea does not have a very good registry system. One would think that a place like Ikea would be more on the ball. The other place we registered was Target. They have a really good system. Totally on the ball, very user friendly both for the couple and the person looking to buy the couple a gift.

We also had a big Planning session. We put the next 3 months up on the wall and plotted out when everything needs to be done. We wanted then to have a way to check off tasks and stuff. I had been using iScrybe for some of the wedding stuff, but in the end it wasn’t quite right. We are now using the Project Management section of Zoho.com. So far its nice. Its more fully featured from the get go than say BaseCamp or Backpack. It allows for milestones with tasks associated with them, as well as meetings. The reason we are using this is because of the tasks. I wish Google would get with it and enable Tasks. There is an inelegant way to put tasks into Google, and that is in the form of a site called Remember the Milk, but I didn’t like the way it shows up on my calendars, and I didn’t like that I couldn’t integrate it with a specific calendar. So now all of our tasks are in one place, and we can assign them to different people, but its a separate site to check. What ever helps us get to the wedding day without everything being done at the very last minute.

So that turned into more of a wedding update than a general update, but there you go. I guess it just goes to show where my head is right now.

Feeling better these days

Last week was odd.  It was a short week for me because I was out a couple of days so getting used to the changes in my office was a little broken up.  This week has already started out in a normal fashion, and I expect the rest of the week to go on in a fairly usual fashion.

Actually two new things to report.  1) I am going to be starting Toastmasters tomorrow.  I have seen how Mario has really enjoyed it and how he seems alot more comfortable with the public speaking that he does, so I want do learn the ways.  Actually I just wanted to see what it  is he does every monday evening.  (I want to know at least one of his secret hand shakes).  I am going to be going to a meeting on the SU campus because I can go during my lunch hour (which means I will actually get away from my desk for at least one hour a week) and it would be weird to go to the same meeting as Mario.

2) I am recommitting (again) to working out.  I think its like quiting smoking.  It might not stick the first few times, but you have to keep restarting, get support from people around you and and not get too down on yourself if you happen to slip for a week.  I am working with a trainer.  I am going to work with him once a week and then the other times during the week do the workout that he sort of sets out for me.  I like working with the trainer because this is someone who can give me direction, and will pick on me when they don’t see me for a while.  I like that you can now book appointments on line, but LA Fitness, you are on my shit list of people who should have a much better website.  Just because its a fitness site, doesn’t mean I should have a worse user experience…but I digress.

So these are my new things for the week.  As Mario said, its scary to start new things, but thats the only way we grow.  .

Oh and the art site redesign still needs to happen, and I am going to work on figuring out how to get wordpress set up on my computer so that I can work on a theme offline.

and a bunch of other stuff as well….. shit so much stuff I want to do.
