my dress is here!

ok well the pattern for my dress at  least.

For anyone who knows me, it will come as no surprise that I am going to be making my wedding dress.  It is economical, and frankly, thats how I roll.

I decided to go for a vintage 50s look, and what better way to do that then with a vintage 50s pattern.  I found this really great site called SoVintagePatterns  that literally has hundreds of vintage patterns for all sorts of things.  For evening wear they had 5 pages to browse through.  After looking through their patterns I finally settled on a pattern that is very sweet and is going to be easy enough to alter.  Since the pattern only comes in one size it will need to be altered.

So would this count as my something old and something new?  I mean the actual pattern is older than I am, in fact, it may be as old as my dad.  crazy man.

Back in the day this pattern cost 75 cents! (it cost me much more than that I can assure you.)  You may ask, how then is this going to be economical?  well thanks to everyone who gave me gift certificates for JoAnn fabrics I should be able to cover the cost of the fabric.  So it could come out to less than $100 for a one of a kind custom dress.  Suck on that rich bitches (ohh sorry, i always get really annoyed that people would spend $$$$$$ on a dress.)

Don’t sweat the small stuff he said

Don’t sweat the small stuff. Thats what people say to Mario about planning the wedding. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Its a good sentiment, EXCEPT for the fact that a wedding is inherently a ton of small stuff put together to create one big event. Don’t sweat the small stuff. HA! I told him that I wouldn’t sweat the small stuff if we figured it out all ahead of time.

We went to look at the wedding site the last night with my mom and dad and every question they threw at us was a small thing. Where are you going to put this? where are you going to put that? when are you going here? How are you going to do this that and the other thing? by the time we left there we had talked about a lot of good things and did a lot of good brain storming, but my head hurt and I was sort of brain dead.

Don’t sweat the small stuff. I know what it means, that you shouldn’t let every little thing derail you if it goes wrong. It just doesn’t apply to weddings, no matter how minimalist and simple you try to plan it.

Now here is what I am talking about when I tell Mario to look at what other brides are getting for their weddings and to realize that my requests are not out of control ;)
