So I have put together the Mixed Student Resources Site.  And I worked on it for a long time, and sometimes it made my brain hurt.  Today I finally got over my fears and released it into the wild.  I sent the link to this mixed heritage student conference that is going to be happening in a few weeks (that I am not able to go … grrrr) and I sent the link out to my student development program to the working professionals as well as the current students. I got one email back very shortly after sending this out that said the following:

Thank you so much for this resource.  As a professional who is mixed and struggling with these identities  and working with students that are struggling, this is valuable resource.

that one comment, even if very few of the rest of the people who get the email find the site useful, makes the work worth it, AND motivates me to keep working on it.

Every year and universities around the nation, after the new students start the year, administrators have to report the ethnic make up of the student body. The goal of every university is to appear as diverse as it can so that A) it looks good for the school, and B) it helps in the recruiting of more students of color. (more…)
