Let the planning begin!
So we are now engaged and now comes the “fun” part...planning the wedding. I have been to maybe three weddings in my lifetime so its safe to say that planning one of these things is a pretty foreign concept to me. Just doing a Google search for 'wedding' or 'wedding planning' brings up a ton of information and a lot of it is information about hiring a wedding planner or various vendors of wedding types of things.
So I decided to do two things to start this process. First get a wedding planning book, one that would give me at least a time line or an order of when I should do what. And the second thing I have done is enlist my crafty friends who have actually been involved in the planning of weddings or recently married. And I have to say that those have both helped tremendously.
I like the book I got because as we get things set up we can keep notes, and recipts and things like that in there. Also it is great for showing Mario how much we have to do. While we certainly want to make the wedding something that is a reflection of ourselves we do have to consider the logistics, food, style, and things like that and I think this book is going to help out a lot. I know that in a previous post I talked about how I was going to use Scrybe to plan and track everything which is still going to by my main location for getting and keeping ideas, and sharing ideas with people who are out of town (like my sister).
Before I got together with my friends and my mom last weekend, I was feeling a little bit overwhelmed. Like how are we going to pull this off, where do we get the little gifts for people, what is the etticate of things, wha, who , when where...... We met up at a Barnes & Noble and perused their wedding section for ideas to start, and they talked about weddings they had been to in the past, and how we can make the invitations. Kristen is relatively recently married and she is crafty and thrifty at the same time so she had some really good ideas of things to do. I left there feeling like this was going to be a fun wedding and we really are going to be able to make it something special and make it us.
I think that one thing I am in danger of is just planning planning planning like its my event alone when really its Mario's and mine so I need to really make sure that we figure out how we both want to contribute so one person doesn't feel left out or one person doesn't feel overwhelmed. I know I have already started thinking about my dress because I am going to make it, and because I am a girl, and its been drilled into my brain that this has to be the perfect dress (by society, not by anyone in particular).
I told Mario how when I tell people that we are thinking of June or the wedding that almost all of them have so far said 'ooh thats soon' which of course makes me nervous, be he just says, thats plenty of time. Sure it is baby....sure it is....
No I think we are going to be fine. The first thing we HAVE to do is get the location all set and then from there it will be easier to figure out how much needs to be done, and when they need to be done by. I am looking forward to putting together something that is really going to express us as a couple, and as individuals, and create an environments for all our families and groups to come together and enjoy each other.
i still think we have plenty of time…
